Caroline Chen (ihatepink)  > Family > N'awlins, Louisiana with the Fam: Days 1 and 2
A trip with my parents to see some family friends. We ended up walking the French Quarter and going on a swamp tour. Fun!

Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > At least the price on both sides of the sign were consistent. :P
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > And so began me being grateful for having my camera on me while in the restroom. So ... I guess it's okay to put my Always in the toilet then ... ?
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > We started our day with a walking tour of the French Quarter with the Friends of the Cabildo. This tour guide was an unpaid volunteer, and all proceeds went towards preserving the grey Cabildo building beside the central castle-looking structure. She was a high school teacher; I imagine that's why she was able to impart so much information in such detail.
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > Since we were the only ones on the tour, we were able to ask her to pause and take pictures for us every so often. :)
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > Street vendor. It was "only" 90+ F in New Orleans ... coming from 100+ F temps in Houston, we did just fine. :P
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > These little circles in the ground were everywhere on the sidewalk in front of businesses. We learned that they were termite bait traps. Apparently they are sticks of wood that are stuck into the ground, and every so often are taken out and checked for termites. If there are termites, the wood sticks are soaked with termite killer and put back in the ground to treat the problem.
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > See the two round things on the wall and the rectangle with the 3 dots on it? Those are tie rods; apparently the structures in the French Quarter were all very flimsy in construction and were feared to just fall over sideways. These tie rods that we see are the ends of rods of steel that are driven through the entire structure to try to stabilize it.
Caroline Chen (ihatepink) > I guess people felt that this building needed lots of extra stabilization. :P
